A Love Affair with Jewellery
Legendary actress and movie icon, Elizabeth Taylor’s great enthusiasm for jewellery over the years has made her private collection one of the most sought after estates in recent American history. Her book “Elizabeth Taylor: My Love Affair with Jewelry” is a personal narrative which intertwines stories of her romantic relationships with her passion for collecting jewellery. Taylor’s knowledge of fine jewellery goes beyond most ordinary collectors, and over the years she has obtained the best pieces from the best periods, boasting names from top designers such as BVLGARI, Boucheron and Van Cleef & Arpels, among others.
On December 13, 80 iconic jewels from Taylor’s personal collection will be featured at Christie’s auction house. Some of the most anticipated pieces include The Mike Todd Diamond Tiara, circa 1880 and items from The BVLGARI Emerald Suite A Suite of Emerald and Diamond Jewellery collection. The total selection of jewels has been estimated to bring in well over $30 million to the auction house. The sale will not only showcase exquisite, one-of-a-kind pieces, but will celebrate the life and memory of Elizabeth Taylor. As Taylor herself remarked, “I feel as though I’m only the custodian of my jewelry. When I die and they go off to auction I hope whoever buys them gives them a really good home.”
