T’is the Season for Red Diamonds
Red diamonds are undeniably the rarest and most valuable of all fancy coloured diamonds. Scientists have not established what causes their color adding to the mystery and allure of the stones. Enhanced red diamonds can easily be distinguished from natural ones due to their blackish overtones as well as their lack of graining and unusual absorption patterns. Less than 20 stones in the world have been certified as true red diamonds and some have been sold at more than one million dollars per carat. An ultra-rare 3.15 carat red diamond will be featured at Christie’s upcoming Magnificent Jewels Auction on December 7 just in time for the Christmas season. The stone has S12 clarity, excellent symmetry and polish and is valued between $700,000 and $1.2 million.
