Gem-Encrusted Butterflies in LA Museum

ButterflySixteen butterfly brooches are currently being held on display in an exhibit at the Natural History Museum in Los Angeles. Each is lavishly decorated in a combination of semi-precious and precious gemstones and set in 18 karat gold; some included materials are Columbian emeralds, Baja pearls, and garnets.

One notable piece is a brooch that holds 34.67 carats of benitoite, California’s state gemstone. (more…)

Jaw Dropping Argyle Pink Diamond

As if diamonds weren’t getting enough attention, a recently discovered pink diamond was discovered in the Rio Tinto Argyle Diamond mine in Western Australia that is expected to sell for up to $10.6 million!! This stone is said to be the largest stone ever discovered, weighing in at 12.76 carats. This gem has been named the Argyle Pink Jubilee, a name we can’t forget.
