The Votes are In: 2014 Color of the Year is Radiant Orchid
Pantone’s pick of the year is Radiant Orchid, a hot pink infused shade of purple. Following this year’s Emerald Green, it seems that the trend is towards bright, jewel-toned colors. In fact, the two are color-wheel opposites. When paired together, they create a nice complementary contrast, which means you can take all of the emerald green in your current wardrobe and wear it again this year!
Pantone Color Institute is the world’s leading color expert, setting standards for commercial use by design industries such as fashion, beauty, consumer products and home design. They watch global trendsetter brands all over the world to come up with a new hue every year that is on the cusp of becoming very popular. The shade is already a favorite of America’s beloved First Lady Michelle Obama, appearing as well on the couture runways of Milan Fashion Week Spring 2014.
It will be easy for jewelry lovers to accessorize in the pinkish-purple fashions for 2014. Many gemstones exhibit this lovely shade, including tourmaline, rhodolite garnet, sapphire, spinel, and amethyst. Leatrice Eiseman – director of the Pantone Color Institute – believes that people will take quickly to this color for its universal appeal and versatility, working well with most skin tones. It looks especially nice paired against light yellows, teal, turquoise, and deep hunter greens.
